Household Food Consumption and Wastage during the COVID-19 Pandemic Outbreak: A Comparison between Peru and Brazil

The COVID-19 pandemic has represented a major global challenge. In Latin America, both Brazil and Peru reported the highest levels of impact in terms proportional infection death rates. Within this context, study sought to compare food consumption wastage patterns Peruvian Brazilian households. For these purposes, authors conducted quantitative research based on self-reported online survey submitted during outbreak. Results revealed that intention reducing implementing leftover management routines are related economic value wasted food. addition, countries, shopping lists used as planning elements, purchases influenced by on-sale products. Leftover is also similar expiration date label most commonly criterion for consuming or discarding items. Nevertheless, within framework health crisis generated, opportunities change toward adoption smarter more sustainable purchasing behaviors emerging households companies, addition giving equal importance environmental, social, benefits. This provided insights into times crisis, such pandemic.
